RICHARDANDGRACE

Are you a designer? Yes - Why: To leave a mark behind and to pivot Texas (Houston more importantly) culture.

One word to describe your take on design: Timelessness

The last thing you made: An untitled painting I made for a short film made by myself called “A world of chaos”

The next thing you want to make: I want to capitalize from the art show by creating products that incorporate the main monogram used for Richardandgrace between fine art, home decor, furniture, ready to wear and objects.

A designed object you adore: Shiro kuramata chair!! I love his vision with what he created in the time he was alive. I believe he understood timeless with material usage bending possibilities and resources. Between his chair and the interior decor made for Issey miyake, i’d say he’s in my top favorite designers of all time.

A chair by Shiro Kuramata

A designed object you can’t stand the sight of: This was mighty difficult to answer cause I’m in the middle of trying to appreciate all concepts of “Art” and all interpretations of “art.” I believe the good art bad art opinion can prevent me from learning why the subject was designed in the first place. Hope that makes sense lol

A moment of pure creative joy: My creative joy is being able to bounce from one artful subject to the next. If I’m not inspired to design clothes, I paint. If I don’t feel like painting, I’m exploring with music between djing and producing. Its a cycle I created for myself where the inspirational output for Richardandgrace comes from in-house.

When we say “designing the future,” what comes to mind? Opening doors for people to explore all design talents, bringing in new ideas that will benefit the future of the culture.

If you could show your work to anyone in the world, who would it be? I’d love to showcase in Africa, France, Japan!

RICHARDANDGRACE at Sanman Studios

Your aesthetic embodied as a...

sound? House music

color? Black and white

texture? Nylon

Your *grail*: if you could own one iconic design work, what would it be? A scarf from the Kermit Oliver x Hermes collaboration! Kermit Oliver studied under John Biggers at Texas Southern University, an artist my grandmother original drawings of.

What’s next for you? At the end of the month, I’ll be displaying paintings at Sanman Studios in Houston, Tx, July 30th! The purpose of the show is to explore the origins behind “chaos” which is the monogram I’ve been utilizing for Richardandgrace.
