What’s design got to do with it?

DESIGNHEADS is an interview series profiling the next generation of designers, tastemakers, and creatives *shaking up* the design world.

Name: Larry Tchogninou

Age: 24

Location: Chicago, IL

Are you a designer? Why or why not? Yes I am designer. Because I solve problems and rethink things in a tasteful and challenging way.

One word to describe your take on design: RADICAL

The last thing you made: A bag

The next thing you want to make: A fruit peeler

A designed object you adore: The Juicy Salif by Phillipe Starck for Alessi

A designed object you can’t stand the sight of: Jeanneret chair

A moment of pure creative joy: When I hold the first physical sample of objects I am working on in my hands. Just the transition from a flat sketch to a physical and tangible piece gives me a lot of joy.

When we say “designing the future,” what comes to mind? Provide opportunities to all to participate to the design world whatever their background or color of skin is. Build more makerspaces for people to make things and put ideas out.

If you could show your work to anyone in the world, who would it be? Tyler The Creator. Because he is such an example of authenticity.

Your aesthetic embodied as a...

sound? Drill music's 808 drums. S/o Pop Smoke!

color? Orange or Volt

texture? Ripstop Nylon layered with perforated foam.

Your *grail*: if you could own one iconic design work, what would it be? Wassily Chair by Breuer
